Lions could turn to the draft for offensive line depth
The Lions never had their five projected preseason starters together for a game during the 2021 season. Most notably, left tackle Taylor Decker started the season on IR after a hand injury just before Week 1 and center Frank Ragnow suffered a season-ending foot injury in Week 4. All was not lost though. Evan Brown filled in capably for Ragnow, and Penei Sewell had a solid rookie season split almost equally between left and right tackle as he filled in for Decker early. Left guard Jonah Jackson was named a Pro Bowl alternate. Matt Nelson wound up starting nine games at right tackle, and was good enough that he didn’t stand out as inept most of the time.
The Lions could turn to the draft for some offensive line depth, particularly at guard. Versatility could be a tipping point for who they may consider drafting, likely in the middle rounds. Among the Senior Bowl prospects they’ll get a close look, most played multiple positions for more than a stray game or two during their college careers.
