The New England Patriots have apparently have had previous trade discussions concerning their star cornerback, Stephon Gilmore. The Pats were rumored to be shopping him prior to the draft and before the start of the season.

Any player that has played or plays for the Patriots will always be linked to the Lions as this regime is known from bringing over former players from the organization general manager Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia used to be apart of.

This season, Gilmore hasn’t gotten off to the greatest start as he’s only intercepted one pass with two pass deflections, a forced fumble and 20 tackles (15 solo). But he is the reigning NFL defensive player of the year.

Gilmore’s owed the remaining portion of his $25.1 million salary cap hit for this season and is under contract for next season at $17.1 million. Acquiring him could cost as high as a first-round pick … and possibly more.
