Trade Scenario #4 – Lions Sell Small

Similar concept, but at a much smaller clip. In these mock trades, Detroit sells off players of lesser impact.

Example Trade #1

Head coach Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots have been burned quite a few times when acquiring wide receivers. Nevertheless, familiarity and a low price is a comfortable deal for them to make when it comes to slot receiver Danny Amendola.

Bob Quinn receives a fifth round pick where he has found steals in Joe Dahl, Tyrell Crosby, and cornerback Amani Oruwariye. In the meantime, the Lions would go slot receiver by committee with who they have on roster.

Example Trade #2

This trade has been through the rumor mill ever since middle linebacker Devin Bush tore his ACL, forcing him to be out for the season. Linebacker Robert Spillane has stepped up for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Davis wouldn’t push him out of a job.

It wouldn’t hurt for the Steelers, who are the last undefeated team in the NFL this season, to buy some insurance. Which Davis would bring for them.

For Quinn, they are basically getting back what they gave up for Griffin. If that’s how you choose to look at it.

Likelihood?

Again, it’s difficult to see Detroit selling. They need all of their players, even Davis, who has been tremendous rotating in for the starters. Another thing to consider, this Lions team appears to be closer than ever (in terms of morale). And trading away high character players might not be a smart idea.
