The defense is overall poor

Quinn chose to switch coaches and schemes after two years so the idea that he isn’t responsible for the poor performance of his defense in his fourth year on the job seems silly in many ways. The pass rush is among the few worst in the NFL and that isn’t due to injuries.

High priced free agents like Trey Flowers were signed and the sum of the rosters parts has not added up to wins or consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Results don’t show enough growth

While the roster has completely changed, the team went from winning nine games, to winning six games, to winning only three thus far in 2019.

Regardless of excuses about injuries and choices to change leadership or schemes, the Lions seem further away from a division title than when Quinn declared that Caldwell’s 9-7 record wasn’t good enough.

The division is also very tight but the Lions will finish in no better than third place in the NFC North and are currently last.
