With the 16th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select…

Scouting Report. Defensive End. Brian Burns. 16. player. 87. Pick Analysis. Florida State

The Panthers have three glaring needs as of right now; offensive tackle, defensive end and safety. With their first pick they take the best player available and get the last remaining elite pass rusher on the board.

Burns is more of a stand-up speed rusher but can still get to passer when faced with more powerful opponents. While not his best trait, he can still successfully set the edge against the run and give you a reliable guy on the edge who can play all three downs.

His best usage will come on obvious passing downs when he can really set up and just take off after the quarterback. Burns’ size will turn off some teams on him, but he fits Carolina’s defense fairly well and will give them a much needed pass rusher to terrorize the good to elite quarterbacks they face twice a year in their division.
