With the 15th overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select…

TJ Hockenson. 15. player. 50. Pick Analysis. Tight End. Iowa. Scouting Report

Here it is. The Lions traded back from eight to fifteen and still landed the player many expect them to take eight overall.

Hockenson is a stud tight end that could be the best one in the draft. While his teammate Fant went earlier than him, because the Packers preferred the more dynamic receiver of the two, the Lions will gladly take Hockenson, who is the more rounded out prospect.

Hockenson can run routes very well and has strong hands. While he won’t wow you with his YAC ability he will with is ability to just plow right through defenders. Another reason why he will be more attractive to the Lions is that he is an outstanding blocker and that fits with what they will want to do in their new system.

Hockenson will give them the ability to stretch the field and run the ball at an elite level. When the offense reaches the red zone, they will finally be able to convert red zone trips into touchdowns with the addition of Hockenson.

Hockenson would give them an elite middle of the field red zone threat, that when coupled with wide outs Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay, becomes almost impossible to successfully defend against. Hockenson would take the offense to a new level and provide them with a high ceiling and high floor prospect.
