Round Three: Deebo Samuel, WR, University of South Carolina

Samuel is someone that has grown on me following his performance during Senior Bowl week. He was electric and looked like one of the best receivers in Mobile. He is a speedster who can do some serious damage after the catch.

If you’re hoping for a Tate replacement in this class, this guy is the one you’re going to be wanting the Lions to draft. He can do everything that Tate did for the Lions, and would be younger and cheaper. There’s not another wide out in this class that can emulate Tate the way Samuel does.

Samuels’ speed allows him to sneak past defenders and and once he gets past them it’s hard to catch up to him. Once he gets the football in the open field, watch out! Samuel can cut on a dime and turn up-field in an instant, getting the most yards after the catch he can on every play.

Samuel would have to play from the slot considering he would not be able to kick Golladay or Marvin Jones Jr. inside. This is all well though, as I think he would be able to do his best work in the Lions’ offense from the slot position.
