PROJECTED TRADE #2

Analysis: The Lions need a quality cornerback to pair with Pro Bowler Darius Slay in their secondary. And many believe that player will be found in the draft.

Unfortunately, young cornerbacks have a dubious history of needing a lot of time to acclimate to the speed and mental aspects of the NFL game.

Although Detroit could certainly draft a talented defensive back to develop, why not simply add a future Hall of Famer to the defense and make your secondary the best in the league right now? That’s what would happen if the Lions made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for veteran defensive back Patrick Peterson.

An eight-time Pro Bowler despite only be 28-years old, Peterson reportedly begged to get out of Arizona last season prior to the trade deadline. After the Cardinals suddenly fired their first-year head coach at the end of the season, Peterson’s desire to play elsewhere in 2019 is likely greater than ever.

The asking price for Peterson will undoubtedly be high. But if the Lions were able to add someone like him to their defense, you’d have to believe they’d instantly become one of the top defensive secondaries in the NFL.
