Both the Detroit Lions and their fans must be better

Lions fans, we usually complain about not being able to cheer on a contender but how can we even hope to attain the levels of success that the Packers have when the overwhelming majority of our team’s fans can’t even endure some tough times?

It has been decades of futility, so is one more terrible loss really going to sway you one way or another? This could still be an incredible year, or not. Either way, we have no idea yet!

More from SideLion Report

At no point ever would fans at Gillette Stadium ever fix their mouths to boo Tom Brady. Not ever, regardless of how bad the team played. If my memory serves correct, the New England Patriots also similarly suffered a blowout loss in Week 1 last year but they still rebounded to a Super Bowl berth.

I’m not saying that future is in store for the Lions but I don’t recall that fan base losing it. Everyone else outside of Foxborough did, but they held firm and went on to play outstanding football.

Stafford may not have the gaudy Super Bowl hardware that his two more heralded contemporaries in Rodgers and Brady do, but hasn’t he at least earned enough goodwill with his play over the years that he’s allowed to be terrible on a single night? I mean, we all are entitled to a bad performance on the job from time to time, right?

For as much heart as Stafford plays with, it saddens me that even during a terrible outing, some fans couldn’t even be civil enough to stay for the duration of this game to let their team know that we have their backs through thick and thin.

You bought the tickets, you may as well get your money’s worth by staying until the end, good, bad, or indifferent! I cannot bring myself to boo this team. Even with years of futility and bad play, I stick through it because that’s what I thought fandom was all about. I will support no matter what.
