There were plenty of mixed reviews for the Detroit Lions in the NFL draft. Holes still need filling in the second wave of free agency.

Many fans and analysts weren’t raving about the Detroit Lions‘ draft, including myself. The players selected isn’t the problem.

I wasn’t a fan of trading away picks and thought certain positions were taken sooner than needed with others being neglected completely. Training camp is still a ways out so free agency is far from over.

Here’s a few positions that the Lions should address with the remaining $9.7 million dollars in cap space. Whoever Detroit signs this late in the game come at a bargain price.

Middle linebacker

A lot was done in the first wave of free agency to address this position. The Lions could use more of an impact player, not depth guys. An all-around, number one type linebacker would do this unit wonders.

NaVorro Bowman, Karlos Dansby, Jerrell Freeman, Derrick Johnson, Lawrence Timmons

Pass-rushing linebacker

Not a single edge rusher was taken by the Lions in the draft. Who they have now are solid. Still, it’s safer to add more depth and get another player with experience rushing in a 3-4 defense from a two-point stance.

Connor Barwin, Ahmad Brooks, Elvis Dumervil, Erik Walden, Willie Young

Wide Receiver

Detroit has some quality pass catchers. Ideally, a receiver with size to help them in the red zone. Good is acceptable, which they are, but this unit could be great.
