The Detroit Lions need talented running backs. And they would seemingly have a nice trio in LeGarrette Blount, rookie Nick Chubb and veteran Lion Theo Riddick. But Blount is on a one-year deal and Detroit must think about the future.

What the Lions could really use is a power back to help them convert those shorter third downs and goal-line opportunities. Well, let me introduce you to 6-foot-4, 250 pound running back Chris Warren out of Texas.

The son of the Seattle Seahawks’ great running back of the same name, Warren was underutilized by the Longhorns. Playing primarily the H-back role due to his size, the power runner could fill the same role at the next level as a hybrid full back.

But in Detroit, Warren could easily become the team’s much needed short-yardage specialist. Especially if the Lions move on from Blount in 2019. In the seventh round, you are looking for traits that can carry over to the next level. Warren’s combination of size, speed and NFL bloodline are intriguing and certainly worth a late round flier.
