The Detroit Lions are fielding offers for tight end Eric Ebron. Will one be too enticing not to take? We’ll discuss that a more in today’s headlines.

Right before the trade deadline last season, the Detroit Lions were contemplating trading away former first round pick Eric Ebron. Ultimately, the Lions opted to keep Ebron and the fourth-year tight end rewarded them with a terrific second-half of the season.

Now it appears those trade rumors are warming up again. Should the Lions pull the trigger this time? Plus, is Detroit really all set at cornerback? And which potential Lions shined at the Combine? We’ll cover those topics and more in today’s headlines!

Report: Lions listening to trade offers for Eric Ebron – Pro Football Talk

After posting 21 receptions for 219 yards and two touchdowns in the final four games of last season, suddenly the trade talk surrounding tight end Eric Ebron is heating up again. With the draft just over a month away, getting an extra selection or two must look good to general manager Bob Quinn and new head coach Matt Patricia. Ebron is scheduled to make $8.25 million in 2018 due to the Lions picking up his fifth-year option. I’m just not sure any team will offer more than a late round pick for him.

Team-by-team CB picture: Patriots need upgrade; Saints solid – NFL.com

According to the above article, the Lions need to upgrade their cornerback position. And I have to agree. I’m not sold that 2017 second rounder Teez Tabor is the answer at starter opposite Darius Slay in the secondary. The Lions’ were dedicated to bringing Tabor along slowly, so his assumed promotion to starter is premature. If I were Detroit, I’d want to get some insurance in either free agency or the draft. The one thing you don’t want to do is find out in training camp that Tabor isn’t ready and have limited options to turn to.

If Lions want RB upgrade, Carlos Hyde, Isaiah Crowell are sensible vet options – ESPN.com

I honestly love the idea of adding a veteran running back in free agency to this Lions’ roster. But that shouldn’t stop them from also drafting a running back high in the upcoming NFL draft as well.

PFF 2018 NFL Mock Draft 3 – Pro Football Focus

In the above mock, the Lions’ opt to use their first round selection on San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny. I have no problem with the pick if the Lions’ honestly feel he’s the best runner available at #20. But it seems every other mock I’ve seen feels differently.

10 players who impressed at 2018 Combine – DetroitLions.com

Out of the 10 players listed above, only two of them are running backs. One of which is, of course, Penn State’s Saquon Barkley. The other, Georgia’s Nick Chubb. Unless Barkley falls, I can’t see the Lions trading up for him. As for Chubb, injury concerns put him out of first round consideration for me. But in the second round, I’d take him.
