Marvin Jones Jr., Wide Receiver

I think it’s important we give a nod to wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. here. Last season, the former Cincinnati Bengals star exploded out of the gate in Detroit. Posting a ridiculous 23 receptions for 482 yards and two touchdowns in his first four games as a Lion.

Although his production fell off as the season wore on, Jones proved he could be a difference maker in this already stacked wide receiver corps in the Motor City. And the fifth-year veteran has made it a focus to be more consistent this year, even working with future Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss to improve in the offseason.

It appears the hard work has paid off as Jones has recorded back-to-back preseason games with a touchdown reception. Against the New York Jets, he posted four receptions for 34 yards and a score. And on Friday night, against the New England Patriots, Jones caught four of his seven targets for 62 yards and another touchdown.

The preseason-hype in Detroit has been all about possible third round steal, Northern Illinois’ wide out Kenny Golladay. But that excitement might be misplaced as it could be Marvin Jones Jr., in his second season in the Motor City, that could actually be the emerging superstar instead.
