Ameer Abdullah, Running Back

Last year was supposed to be a breakout season for running back Ameer Abdullah. Unfortunately, his big year was suddenly halted in Week Two after Abdullah suffered a season-ending foot injury that was later revealed to be a dreaded Lisfranc tear.

A year delayed, Abdullah is once again touted as the Lions’ next possible 1,000 yard rusher. And the former second round selection out of Nebraska is looking like his old self again.

Against the Patriots on Friday night, the 24-year put up nearly 100 total yards of offense. Abdullah ran the ball 13 times for 60 yards on the ground and he added three receptions for 39 more yards through the air.

It was a quality outing for the player many believe is the linchpin for success in Detroit this season. With an upgraded offensive line up front, Abdullah should have his best opportunity yet to become a dominate rusher for the Motor City. And against the Pats, Ameer seemed to get stronger and more confident as the game wore on.

There is little doubt that a healthy Ameer Abdullah could do wonders for the Detroit Lions this season. And many are expecting big things from this 5-foot-9, 203 pound dynamo.
