I’m sure many will disagree with me here as defensive end is a need with the uncertainty of a Jason Jones return.

Is Charles Johnson the best option out there? No he’s not. In fact any 30-year-old defensive end is not really the answer. That includes Mario Williams and I suppose even Jason Jones too. The Lions should take this opportunity to get younger and faster at the position instead of signing a short-term answer.

If they do go short-term, it’s more likely that Williams or Jones is the guy they target. Johnson getting cut from a team that wants to make it back to the Super Bowl next year kind of leaves an expendable stain on the defensive end. Perhaps they felt that Johnson’s hamstring injury would never improve? Why would the Lions want to take the chance the NFC Champs wouldn’t?
