This a dream scenario for the Lions. Gipson and Quin would be quite the formidable duo in the safety spots. Just think about it.

It’s a dream scenario because at 25, the Pro Bowl safety is going to get big money. Frankly I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gipson be one of the most desired free agents on the market this coming summer. Dreams are dreams for a reason. The same reasons the Lions won’t be getting Von Miller and/or Alshon Jeffrey in the offseason.

Nevertheless this is an obtainble dream for the Lions. Safeties don’t see the mega money that cornerbacks do. The highest paid safety in the NFL today is Jarius Byrd who’s contract is a whopping $54 million. That’s nearly $17 million less than the highest paid corner.

The good news for the Lions is that Gipson isn’t going to make that kind of money. Kam Chancellor doesn’t even make that kind of money. Gipson will likely pull$25-$30 million all together. which is not bad. The obvious issue is that he currently plays in Cleveland. If you were in his shoes, wouldn’t you be looking to see if New England or a team of that caliber was interested before you head to Detroit?

We shall see what happens this summer. But If I’m an aspiring GM, I’m definitely looking at Detroit as my stomping ground.
