Detroit Lions Stock Report: Week 6

Stock Down: Ameer Abdullah
The biggest knock on Ameer Abdullah coming out of Nebraska was his ball security issues. Yes, they improved in each year of his college career, but it was still a very high rate even at its best. Those issues have not only persisted as a pro, they seem to have accelerated. Four fumbles in six games is an embarrassing pace, and one that will need to be corrected immediately.

Abdullah has shown that insane cutting ability that made him a star in college, though his blocking hasn’t been there to make anything of it. The playcalling has also been bad, making it even more difficult to showcase any level of ability. Even with those limitations, losing the football is going to make you a liability on the team.
It’s even more depressing because he was looking pretty good aside from the ball issue. If he hadn’t fumbled away his chances, we might be talking about a win in regulation on the heels of a strong run game playing the clock out, but instead we’re talking about another second round pick that can’t seem to get his crap together for the Detroit Lions.
