While the Lions did sign Correy Wooton this week, they could still use help on the edge. In my opinion, Wooton is more of a defensive tackle that has the ability to kick out to end, while Smith would present a true option at defensive end. Like the rest of these guys, there is an issue.
Can Smith stay healthy? At only 25, if Smith can figure a way to stay healthy he could still have a decent career as a rotational defensive end. This goes back to the talk about George Johnson. Smith could work n this scheme as the former Sun Belt defensive player of the year can burst of edge with great speed. The issue still remains the same though. Can he over come the torn ACL he suffered in college and get his career going?
