Safety is not necessarily a need for the Lions, more of a precaution. While most expect James Ihedigbo to play nice and play out his contract. There are always those off chances that he decides to hold out during the season.
Enter Quinton Carter. Much like Smith, Carter has an injury issue. After a decent rookie year, Carter looked like he would be Broncos starting safety going into the future. Until he reactivated a knee injury that required micofracture surgery that ultimately kept him out of the NFL for 2 years. This past season he made his return to a much different Broncos team that had little use for him.
Carter could fit in Detroit now that he appears to be healthy. A year or two with the Lions could give Carter the chance to prove that his knee injury may pf won the battle but it won’t win the war.
