Two Lions players draw fines for infractions in Week 14 vs. Packers
From touchdown celebrations to helmet-to-helmet hits, the Detroit Lions seem to draw fines on a weekly basis this season. Which isn't to say they haven't been warranted, because many have been based on how the league legislates things and the actions of some players. It's to the point where no fines in a given week, like for Week 13, is noted.
Well, that respite was nice while it lasted. As is the case each Saturday, the league announced fines from Week 14's action. It feels like the Lions played a long time ago to kick off the week of action, but the league office does not miss.
Very early in the Thursday night game against the Green Bay Packers, Lions defensive end Za'Darius Smith hit Packers quarterback Jordan Love in the head and neck area. A flag should have been thrown for roughing the passer, but it somehow was missed despite being so obvious and easy to see. It stands as another example of how replay review should be able to intervene when officials miss something so blatantly.
Unsurprisingly, Smith has been fined $6,722 for the high hit on Love.

Smith's fine was easy to see coming, once the league reviewed the game and all the plays in it. But another Lions' player, Christian Mahogany, also drew a fine. The rookie guard has been fined $4,609 for a facemask during the game against the Packers.
Nolan Bianchi of the Detroit News found the play involving Mahogany. He's No. 73 (the right guard), and as he gets to the second level you can clearly see him get a piece of the facemask of Packers' linebacker Quay Walker (No. 7 in white).
Mahogany also did not draw a penalty on the field, those his infraction was way easier for the officials to have missed in real-time.
The funniest part is Mahogany played three snaps against the Packers when Kevin Zeitler briefly exited the game due to an injury. The offending play was his third and final snap of the game, and the third snap of his career.
