Watch Jared Goff show off his arm during pre-game warmups (video)

Just because he doesn't do it in a game very often doesn't mean Jared Goff lacks a big arm.

If you were to rank NFL starting quarterbacks by arm strength, Jared Goff would not be high on the list. It's simply not something he puts on display all that often in games, and being a pocket passer like he is removes the idea of broken plays where he might uncork a deep pass while on the move. And frankly, that might look pretty ugly.

As such, if you were to list Goff's strengths as a quarterback, an overwhelming strong arm akin to someone like Josh Allen wouldn't be high on the list. Sure, there's a base level requirement of arm strength required to be a highly-functioning NFL quarterback, and Goff is for sure that more often than not, now into his ninth season. His game is based on recognition, timing and accuracy beyond sheer physical tools. Which isn't a knock, it's just what it is.

Some coaches, regardless of the sport, might say "practice like you play." Which in a quarterback during pre-game warmups context might go something like, "if you wouldn't throw a 65-yard pass in a game, don't doing in warmups."

That being said, starting pitchers baseball often do long-toss when they warm up before a game. In that vein, during pre-game warmups before Monday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks, Goff threw a 65-yard pass on a line to the end zone.

Maybe Goff was practicing for a deep ball that's in the playbook for Jameson Williams on Monday night ("practice how you play", indeed then). Or maybe he realized an NFL-commissioned camera was near him, ready to document something for a social media clip, and he wanted to show off his arm.

Whatever the case, it was a fun little moment and there's no doubt Goff has ample arm strength even it's not something he does often in games.
