At the NFL league meetings in Orlando on Monday, Detroit Lions president Rod Wood touched on a lot of topics when speaking to reporters. From the decision to release Cameron Sutton, with some new details there, to the upcoming draft in Detroit, to contract extensions for Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes, to new international marketing rights, to new uniforms.....
It's well-known the Lions are set to have new primary uniforms in 2024, their first since 2017. It's just a question of when they'll be released, and what they'll look like.
Wood said, as easily expected, new Lions' uniforms will be revealed before the draft in Detroit next month.
"We’ll be rolling them out probably just before the draft,” Wood said at the owners meetings on Monday. “I think everybody will be excited about it. I’m not going to tease it too much, but I’m really happy with the way it turned out. It was a multi-year process that Brian (Facchini) and Mike Disner really led, worked with Nike and the league, and I think the fans are going to be really excited about it.”
Wood did not give any big details, but he did talk about the patch honoring William Clay Ford that has been on the Lions' uniforms.
"We’re going to treat that in a little different way,” Wood said. “I’m not going to tease exactly how it is. It’s going to be honored, but not in the same way it was on the current uniforms.
Report: Date of Detroit Lions uniform reveal
Other reports have said the Lions' new uniforms will be dropped in the fairly vague window of "before the draft", based purely on what Wood said. But Christian Booher of SI.com/All Lions reported the exact date on Monday.
"According to a source familiar with the situation, the Lions are planning a uniform reveal event on Thursday, April 18."
April 18 is of course exactly one week before the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft takes place. So if the report is true, it makes a lot of sense so there can be plenty of Lions' fans attending the draft while wearing a brand new jersey.
