Matthew and J.B. discuss the Stafford for Goff trade. J.B. shares the perspective from Los Angeles and how Aaron Donald’s career timeline probably played a factor into the move by the Rams organization. Both agree, this was a win-win trade, but J.B. pointed out playoff games can’t be win-win and the Lions got that one back in January.
Though no longer a Ram, Jared Goff is still a guy that J.B. holds in high regard. Coming up is a game where the two quarterbacks will square off again for the third time in four years. J.B. isn’t surprised by the season opener billing for this contest and expects a great contest. Now the two teams are scheduled to play again on a Sunday night in Detroit. The atmosphere for that playoff game is still talked about today, many can’t wait to see what it looks like in the season opener.
The running game for the Rams will be a key component according to Long as the Rams are trying to make their run and pass formations look identical. The selection of Blake Corum in the 2024 draft fits in a very complimentary way to Kyren Williams- giving the Rams two very similar backs providing more depth on the roster.
The offensive line will be key as some starters are expected to miss time. Matthew, James and Coach discuss the Lions pass rush. If Detroit can take advantage of the shuffling of the offensive line and get pressure on Stafford, that could be a game changer.
Of course the area of the Lions that will be tested by Stafford is the revamped secondary of Detroit. While there are many talented additions for the Lions, their time together on the field is still in its infancy. Keeping the Rams one dimensional would also help if they can keep the run game in check.
