Back in November, Justin Rogers of the Detroit News reported Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was being followed by an NFL Films crew for a new Netflix series that would be a sequel to "Quarterbacks." Details were not fully clear, but confirmation seemed sure to come at some point with multiple Lions' reporters noting St. Brown was being followed by a camera crew all season.
On Wednesday morning, Netflix announced the upcoming series, called "Receiver", featuring St. Brown, Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle. The release date was not announced, but a reference point "Quarterbacks" was released on July 12, 2023. If will be a production of NFL Films, Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions and Patrick Mahomes' 2PM Productions.
Multiple quarterbacks were apparently approached to be in the sequel to "Quarterbacks", including Lions quarterback Jared Goff and former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Stafford suggested discussions didn't get all that far, and Goff told 97.1 The Ticket (h/t to Rogers) he had multiple reasons to not participate.
A multitude of reasons,” Goff told 97.1. “I really don’t know if it’s as distracting as people may think, the way that they do it, but just wasn’t the right fit for me this year. Maybe one day."
So a pivot to a different position was required, and it's fair to say four of the best wide receivers in the league and Kittle will prove to be the ideal pivot.
Amon-Ra St. Brown set for a bigger national profile from being on Netflix series
St. Brown has become a quick star, with how he's produced on the field over his first three seasons, a popular podcast he does with his brother Equanimeous associated with The 33rd Team and rise of the Lions as a team making people more aware of him. He's also in line to become one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL in the coming months.
But being featured on the Netflix series will only raise St. Brown's national profile, letting fans across the country see him off the field just as much (if not more than) on the field over the course of the 2023 season.
