Since Week 13 of his rookie season, only two wide receivers (Justin Jefferson, Davante Adams) have posted more fantasy points than Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. There's no denying his status among the top-12 wide receivers in fantasy heading into the 2023 season, and there's room for more in one key area with better luck.
Social media, especially Twitter (or "X"), allows fantasy football owners an easy path complain directly to players when they have a bad game and it caused a fantasy loss that week. Some players openly embrace fantasy in public forums, while some will respond to the Twitter trolls with things like "we won, so I don't care that I didn't put up big numbers." Most players are somewhere in-between a full-on embrace of fantasy and responding curtly to disappointed owners who use digital muscles to criticize them.
During a recent appearance on the "Pardon My Take" podcast, St. Brown addressed the topic of fantasy football.
Amon-Ra St. Brown delivers a clear message to fantasy football owners
St. Brown started by lamenting, however lightly, the sheer volume of fantasy-related messages he gets. He clearly does not get the appeal of, or mass obsession with, fantasy football.
"I get so many fantasy messages. It's actually insane," St. Brown said. "I don't understand what the big deal is, why people are so obsessed with fantasy.""
Then, as the hosts joked that media and fans pay his salary, St. Brown leaned into it a little and dropped a clear-cut message to fantasy owners in the midst of draft season.
"Shoot, my message is, 'If you pick me, you will be in good hands.' That's about it."I'm gonna be honest. I haven't had that many bad games in my career," "I get targeted a lot.""Amon-Ra St. Brown
St. Brown combines floor and ceiling in a way that makes him an appealing target in fantasy drafts this year. His comments should not lead anyone to now bump him way up their wide receiver rankings, as he already has a high spot for those who are paying attention.
