Jared Goff sends positive message about his mindset going into 2023 season

The Detroit Lions are ready for a new season with Jared Goff under center, and things are clearly pointing in a positive direction.
While some may wonder about Goff's long-term future in Detroit, he is focused on the here and now. Goff says he feels as good as he ever has.
Ahead of the season, Goff sat down with ESPN's Jeff Darlington for a lengthy discussion. Darlington asked Goff where his mind and body are at right now.
"I hope to be describing it as entering my prime. I feel like I am playing as well as I've ever played. Physically, I'm as strong as I'm going to be for the next five to seven years. I feel good. I feel I'm entering a point in my career where I have a good grasp of everything we're doing. I feel like I'm becoming that veteran quarterback that you always grew up watching."

The Lions have high expectations for this season, and Goff knows he will be a driving force for those expectations to be met...or even exceeded.

In terms of those expectations, Goff understands the Lions haven't won a playoff game since the 1991 season or a division title since 1993. That history isn't weighing anyone down, though.
As Goff explained, the Lions continue to focus on controlling what they can.
"I have a sense of the history. It's important for us, but it doesn't weigh on us. It is part of the history of this organization, but our team is a different team than last year's and the previous 30 years. We are focused on what we can do every day and getting better. Certainly, we see that in the building. That's our goal. Win the division, get in the playoffs, get in the dance and see what we can do from there."

Based on how Goff feels and the mindset the team has adopted, it's fair to say they have a chance to meet their goals this season. If that's the case, the rejuvenated quarterback will be a big reason why.
