The Detroit Lions were as close to a Super Bowl as they've ever been in franchise history, but fell just short to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship.

With a young roster and plenty of cap space, the Lions are expected to have another great shot at advancing to the Big Dance in 2024. A big reason for the Lions' success last reason, and one of the biggest keys to them continuing to improve moving forward, is the play of their quarterback Jared Goff.

Goff has experienced a career resurgence the past two seasons with the Lions and now he has many fans believing that he can help lead this team to the Promise Land.

So, now that we've officially entered the offseason, it's time to take a look at next year's odds to win NFL MVP. Can Goff be in the conversation?

Jared Goff disrespected in NFL MVP odds

Despite leading the Lions to the NFC Championship last season, Goff is listed at +5000 to be named NFL MVP next season. That's tied for the 17th best odds along side Justin Fields and Kyler Murray. There are plenty of names above Goff, including the likes of Matthew Stafford (+2000), Aaron Rodgers (+2500), and Anthony Richardson (+3000).

Goff threw for the second most yards last season with 4,575 while also finishing with the fourth most passing touchdown with 30. There's a lot to like about his game yet his name hasn't come up in MVP conversation. If there's one down side to his numbers it's that he threw 12 interceptions, but that was still significantly less than Josh Allen (18), Jalen Hurts (15), and Patrick Mahomes (14).

It's about time we start giving the Lions' quarterback the respect he deserves. In my opinion, it's blasphemous that he has worse odds than a second-year QB coming off an injury in Richardson and the same odds as Fields who has never shown competency at the professional level.

On the bright side, we can take advantage of this disrespect by placing a bet on Goff to win the award. He is, by far, the best value bet on the board if you're looking for a long shot or dark horse to be named NFL MVP.
