Frank Ragnow injury update from Dan Campbell will surprise exactly no one

On Monday night, center Frank Ragnow was added to the list of injuries for the Detroit Lions with Ian Rapoport reporting he suffered a partially torn pec early in Sunday's win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Ragnow was not part of all the injury updates Lions head coach Dan Campbell offered on Monday afternoon, likely due to a sheer lack of specifics. So any confirmation of Rapoport's report would likely come when Campbell made his weekly appearance on 97.1 The Ticket Tuesday morning.

Campbell was asked about the outlook for Ragnow heading toward next Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks. He didn't offer specifics on the injury, instead focusing on Ragnow's desire to play.

Frank Ragnow injury update is no surprise

"First of all, Frank is stubborn. He's hard-headed Frank, he's tough, he's stubborn," Campbell said. "He wants to go, and he always wants to go, but this is something we're still talking about now. I'm not entirely sure what we're gonna do with him, a lot of it is where's he gonna feel by middle or end of the week?"

"But he does have something in there, and he did play through some of this last week. And so, we'll do what's best for him and what's best for us in the moment, ultimately, but you know how I feel about Frank, we all do. Appreciate the heck out of him. He's tough, man."

Ragnow played through a lengthy list of injuries over the course of last season (ankle, knee, back, toe), missing just two games. He also played a huge chunk of a game in 2020 with a fractured throat, and he really only missed two games after that due to literally not being able to talk.

Pectoral tears have different grades of severity, and as such have a wide range of recovery times. The Week 5 bye may play into whether Ragnow plays or not against the Seahawks, but that he wants to play next Monday night with what could be a fairly severe/physically limiting injury surprises absolutely no one.
