According NFL insider Jordan Schultz and others, former Lions cornerback Jerry Jacobs is set to sign with the Los Angeles Rams. Jordan Rodrigue of The Athletic added the move is pending a physical, but that should be a formality.

The Liosn signed Jacobs as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas in 2021. He came in and earned a roster spot during training camp, and eventually a starting job, A torn ACL ended his rookie season early, but upon his return in 2022 he was immediately the best cornerback the team had.

Over three seasons in Detroit. Jacobs started 29 games and played in 40 total contests, Last year, over 15 games (12 starts), he was tied for second on the team with three interceptions along with eight pass breakups (both career-highs). But he largely struggled and lost his starting job late in the season. and he eventually landed on IR.

The Lions unsurprisingly did not extend a restricted free agent tender to Jacobs in March, as they eyed overhauling their cornerback depth chart.

Jacobs had visits with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings earlier this offseason, and just this week he had a visit with the Carolina Panthers. The Rams lost cornerback Derion Kendrick to a torn ACL, which prompted them to look for reinforcements and they have landed on Jacobs.

On Thursday afternoon/evening, Jacobs seem to know something might be coming for him based on what he posted to Twitter.

Lions may see Jerry Jacobs again very soon

If Jacobs sticks with the Rams, and he should have every chance to do so in some capacity, the Lions will play against him in Week 1 for the Sunday Night Football season opener. Jacobs will also reunite with Rams assistant head coach and defensive backs coach Aubrey Pleasant, who was the Lions' defensive backs coach for about a season before being fired in 2022.

Jacobs was an easy favorite of the Lions' coaching staff, and he was easy for Lions' fans to root for. Now he's getting an opportunity elsewhere in the NFL.
