The Detroit Lions had their first practice of the week on Wednesday, ahead of their first road game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals. We knew about some injury concerns from last Sunday's game, and there were players who missed last Sunday's game.

It can be easy to overreact to the first practice report of the week on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday of a typical week (Sunday game) tends to be more revealing, good or bad.

With that in mind, here's the Lions' practice report from Wednesday.

  • LB Alex Anzalone (concussion)-No practice
  • CB Terrion Arnold (illness)-No practice
  • OG Graham Glasgow (knee)-No practice
  • S Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle)-No practice
  • CB Ennis Rakestraw (hamstring)-No practice
  • S Kerby Joseph (back)-Limited practice
  • WR Isaiah Williams (abdomen)-Limited practice
  • DE Marcus Davenport (groin)-Full practice
  • WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (quad)-Full practice

First Week 3 injury report for the Lions is a mixed bag

Anzalone exited last Sunday's game against the Buccaneers with a concussion. So it's no surprise he sat out on Wednesday, and his status for Sunday against the Cardinals is in question until further notice.

Arnold briefly left last week's game with a finger injury, but he missed Wednesday's practice due to an illness.

Glasgow took a "friendly fire" hit on Jared Goff's second interception last Sunday (h/t to Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit). He grabbed his arm immediately, but he missed Wednesday's practice with a knee issue.

Rakestraw suffered a hamstring late in pre-game warmups last Sunday, causing him to be inactive. He sat out Wednesday's practice.

After missing practice all of last week, Melifonwu started the new week with another missed session. It's starting to seem like Dan Campbell's vague injury outlook for the fourth-year safety should have yielded a placement on IR to start the season.

A hamstring injury put Joseph on the injury report last week, with limited practices on Thursday and Friday, then he played every defensive snap against Tampa Bay. It's a new injury this week, as he missed Wednesday with a back injury.

Isaiah Williams missed last week's game with an abdomen injury, and he returned to a limited session on Wednesday.

Now, the good news.

After missing last week's game with a groin injury, Davenport was a full participant on Wednesday. The early reports on the leg injury St. Brown suffered last Sunday were good, and indeed he was a full-go on Wednesday.
Jameson Williams and Penei Sewell, who were both on the injury reports last week, were not listed with any ailment for Wednesday's practice. DJ Reader is completely off the injury report now, after making his Lions' debut in Week 2.
