The Detroit Lions signed Jared Goff to a big contract extension, as was always expected. While he has played well over the last two-plus seasons, there's never a guarantee things will stay that way moving forward.

The Lions, though, have given Goff a great chance to be successful in the future. Three-time Super Bowl winner and NBC Sports analyst Devin McCourty likes what Detroit has done in building their roster to best complement their quarterback.

"I think the way he's played, he's only going to get better. They put the right pieces (in place). Shout-out to the Lions in their front office with Brad Holmes. They drafted Sam LaPorta. They got all these guys. Jahmyr Gibbs. They have talent in there, so Jared Goff has no reason not to go out there and continue to play well. I think for Jared Goff, this was well deserved. It's not like they're just paying this guy because they have to. He went and earned this contract when a lot of people thought he would play out the guaranteed money and then Detroit would be looking for their next quarterback. Not the case. He's there and he's playing well, so I'm excited for Detroit this year. I think they have a chance to really continue the path they're on from last year."

With one of the youngest and deepest rosters in the NFL, the Lions are built for sustained success.

Jared Goff thinks extensions allow Detroit Lions confidence to chase Super Bowl

The Lions have gotten some important business done this offseason, with extensions for Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell preceded by contract extensions for general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell.

Speaking to Dannie Rogers of Lions.com, Goff knows that having that business done will allow everyone to focus on a common goal.

"It is full circle, but I think it's just a testament to the work we've put in and again, it's only the beginning. Now we can really push forward towards our goals and be on the same page even more so and know we're all pushing towards the same thing. Myself, Penei (Sewell) and (Amon-Ra) St. Brown as well getting their deals done. It's like alright, now that's behind us, we go forward knowing what we're going for and to win a Super Bowl is the ultimate goal."

Armed with job security, confidence and fantastic teammates, there is no reason to think Goff can't continue on a great path.
