Detroit Lions post-minicamp 53-man roster projection
The Detroit Lions completed their mandatory minicamp last week. They technically have some more OTA sessions this week, but they lost Monday's scheduled session when they were found to have violated no-contract rules late last month.
With veteran players having departed for summer break after minicamp, the Lions' offseason work for this year is effectively over. Now it's time to look toward training camp, and take a run at projecting a 53-man roster based on what we've seen, heard and think we know so far.
Without further ado, here's 53-man roster projection for the Lions after minicamp.
Detroit Lions 53-man roster projection after minicamp
Quarterbacks (3)
Jared Goff
Hendon Hooker
Nate Sudfeld
With Hooker's (expected) ups and downs at OTAs, Sudfeld would probably be the Lions' No. 2 quarterback if the season started right now. It's expected that Hooker will naturally look more comfortable during training camp, but right now his anointed hold on the spot immediately backing up Goff is somewhat tenuous.
Post-training camp, a Lions' 53-man roster may very well include only two quarterbacks. But here and now after minicamp, Sudfeld gets retained as Hooker insurance.
