It's been a while.

This coming Sunday, the Detroit Lions are playing for a berth in the NFC Championship Game.

It sounds wild to say, right?

Sure does.

Detroit is coming off a Wild Card win over the Los Angeles Rams last weekend, where they won by a narrow score of 24-23. It was an exciting contest that saw the Lions win their first postseason game since 1992.

Now, on Sunday, Detroit will take on Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Divisional Round. The game will kick off at 2:00 PM CST at Ford Field, and again, if the Lions come away victorious, it's on to the NFC Championship Game the following weekend.

The Detroit Lions' last NFC Championship Game appearance came over three decades ago.

Believe it or not, the last time the Lions found themselves in the NFC Championship Game was 33 years ago, back in 1991. That team had Erik Kramer under center for the game and, of course, Barry Sanders in the back field.

The Lions were shellacked by the Washington Redskins, losing 41-10. Shockingly, the Redskins held maybe the best running back in NFL history to just 44 yards on 11 carries. Although, by the third quarter, the game was nearing "out of hand" territory.

Kramer, meanwhile, threw for 244 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and was sacked four times on the day.

This weekend, it'll be Jared Goff under center for the Lions, as it has been all season long. Goff is coming off a season in which he finished with 4,575 yards, 30 passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

On the other side, Baker Mayfield also enjoyed a stellar season after signing a one-year deal and going into this year with a "prove it" mentality. Mayfield finished the regular season with career highs in passing yards (4,044), touchdown passes (28) and completion percentage (64.3).

With both defenses having suspect seasons against the pass, this could be shaping up to be a fun game between the two quarterbacks. Detroit and Tampa Bay were each bottom-6 against the pass this season.

Will we see an NFC Championship Game appearance for the first time in over 30 years?
