Rooted in what Brad Holmes has done in his three drafts as general manager, the Detroit Lions paid off a rebuild with a trip to the NFC Championship Game last year.

From first-rounders (Penei Sewell, Aidan Hutchinson, Jahmyr Gibbs) to second round values/steals (Sam LaPorta, Brian Branch) to picks a little later that have turned out (Amon-Ra St. Brown, Alim McNeill, Kerby Joseph), the Lions have built their roster in a way every team would like to but few are able to.

The Lions' 2024 draft class will hopefully keep the momentum rolling. Let's recap the incoming rookie draft class.

First round, pick No. 29: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama
Second round, pick No. 61: Ennis Rakestraw, CB, Missouri
Fourth round, pick No. 126: Giovannni Manu, OL, University of British Columbia (Canada
Fourth round, pick No. 132: Sione Vaki, RB, Utah
Sixth round, pick No. 189: Mekhi Wingo, DT, LSU
Sixth round, pick No. 210: Christian Mahogany, OG, Boston College

The Lions sent own their 2025 sixth-round pick to the Browns for Donovan Peoples-Jones at the 2023 trade deadline. The fourth-round pick they got from the Eagles for D'Andre Swift was sent back to Philadelphia in the trade up to get Sione Vaki. Via the Denzel Mims trade with the Jets, the pick they gave up was contingent on Mims making their roster (he didn't) and the pick they were in line to also get was negated.

The Lions conditionally sent their 2026 seventh-round pick to the Jaguars in the Riley Patterson trade in May of 2023. The conditions are unknown, but since Patterson kicked for the Lions most of last season (13 games), they seem likely to have been met. But for now, until it is known for sure, we'll call it a question if the Lions still have that pick.
