Rooted in what Brad Holmes has done in three drafts as general manager, the Detroit Lions paid off a rebuild with a trip to the NFC Championship Game in the span of three seasons.

From first-rounders (Penei Sewell, Aidan Hutchinson, Jahmyr Gibbs) to second round values/steals (Sam LaPorta, Brian Branch) to picks a little later that have turned out (Amon-Ra St. Brown, Alim McNeill, Kerby Joseph), the Lions have built their roster in a way every team would like to but few are able to.

The Lions are picking late in the first round this year for the first time in a while-No. 29 overall. But they have four top-100 picks in April's draft to keep stocking the cupboard with young talent. A trade up from late in the first round could be in play too.

The 2024 NFL Draft will be here before we know it.
So let's take stock of the Lions' draft picks this year, and into the future. Losing players in free agency could lead to compensatory picks in the following draft. But that would start in 2025 now, since the Lions aren't projected to get any compensatory picks again this year.

The Lions conditionally sent their 2026 seventh-round pick to the Jaguars in the Riley Patterson trade last spring. The conditions are unknown, but since Patterson kicked for the Lions most of last season (13 games), they seem likely to have been met. But for now, until it is known for sure, we'll call it a question if the Lions still have that pick.
