Detroit Lions announce new jersey numbers for 2024 season
After the Detroit Lion unveiled their new uniforms last week, Monday afternoon brought an announcement of some new jersey numbers for several players.
First off, here are the incumbent Lions' players who have change their number.
QB Hendon Hooker: 2 (previously 12)
QB Nate Sudfeld: 8 (previously 10)
WR Daurice Fountain: 12 (previously 84)
WR Antoine Green: 18 (previously 80)
RB Zonovan Knight: 27 (previously 28)
RB Jermar Jefferson: 28 (previously 39)
TE Shane Zylstra: 84 (previously 84, but was on IR and number was unassigned at the end of last season)
DT Brodric Martin: 99 (previously 98)
Jameson Williams made it abundantly clear he wanted No. 1 after Jeff Okudah was traded last offseason. That fueled the idea he may change from No. 9 now, with that number available again after the release of Cameron Sutton. But Williams' mom posted otherwise on social media recently, and it's now been confirmed by the Lions that Williams is keeping No. 9.
It's worth noting players can still change their numbers as the offseason goes on. But if Williams in particular was going to change to this year, to his college number at Alabama, it's fair to assume he'd have done it ASAP. He could very do so in 2025.

And here are the numbers for new Lions' players, before the incoming class of draft picks.
WR Tre’Quan Smith: 10
CB Amik Robertson: 21
CB Carlton Davis III: 23
OL Netane Muti: 52
G Kevin Zeitler: 71
EDGE Marcus Davenport: 92
EDGE Mathieu Betts: 95
DT DJ Reader: 98
Davis will wear No. 23, most recently worn by Jerry Jacobs and previously worn by Okudah and Darius Slay. Robertson, the Lions' other notable veteran addition at cornerback, gets the No. 21 that Tracy Walker wore the last five seasons.
Reader will take No. 98, which he has worn his entire NFL career. That pushes Brodric Martin, who wore that number as a rookie last season, to No. 99.
