Dan Campbell delivers warning to opponents about Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta

The Lions offense looked more like itself against the Seahawks, and Dan Campbell pointed to two reasons why.

The Detroit Lions' offense looked more like the itself on Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks. averaging 7.8 yards per play and going 5-for-5 in the red zone on the way to 42 points.

Backfield mate David Montgomery had the "Angry Run" highlight of the game, but Jahmyr Gibbs had 78 yards and two touchdowns on the ground himself against the Seahawks. Fellow second-year man Sam LaPorta had four catches for 53 yards in the game, as he looks to turn around a slow start to the season.

Campbell was asked about Gibbs during his press conference on Tuesday, but he also briefly mentioned LaPorta.

"He's coming on," Campbell said. "I feel like he and Sam LaPorta, both, yesterday they looked like, OK here we go, man. They got their legs back under them. They look as healthy as they've looked since the beginning of training camp, and they're on the uptick."

Campbell then fleshed out his answer to the question that was specifically about Gibbs.

"(Gibbs) continues to get better, and there was about probably three runs in there yesterday that are this close to going all the way. It's been like that every week. There's been more and more of these that are this close. So, I would anticipate he's about to really take off. He's coming on."

Gibbs was limited by a hamstring injury during training camp. So it wouldn't be surprising that he has taken a few weeks to fully get his "legs back under him", as Campbell said.

LaPorta dealt with a hamstring injury of his own during camp. Then he suffered a right ankle injury in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals, but he was completely off the injury report by the end of last week. He looked as good as he has all season against Seattle.

Gibbs (over 1,200 yards from scrimmage, 11 total touchdowns) and LaPorta (every single season record for a Lions' tight end, the NFL record for catches by a rookie tight end) both had fantastic rookie seasons last year. If Monday night was as healthy as they've both been in two-plus months, the offense looked as good as it did and they're both "on the uptick", then Campbell effectively served a warning to the defenses the Lions will face after their Week 5 bye.
