Chemistry with Jared Goff driving Josh Reynolds to high level of success with Lions

Entering the 2023 season, wide receiver depth looked like a problem for the Detroit Lions. Thus far, that hasn't been the case.

A big reason why is the outstanding play from Josh Reynolds. Leaning into his history with Jared Goff, it felt Reynolds was well-positioned to do damage.

Through Week 5, that's happened. Reynolds has put up 291 yards and three touchdowns. His four catch, 76 yard, one touchdown performance against the Carolina Panthers was vital on an impressive day for the offense without Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Reynolds has been fantastic in Detroit, and after the game, he credited experience with Goff and the Los Angeles Rams for getting him to where he's at with the Lions.

"It was a little different in Los Angeles, the schemes were a little different so there wasn't as many jump ball opportunities for me. I was able to kind of just hone my skills in a different area of being a receiver and I think it's kind of helped me where I'm at now."

"We're just making plays, baby. That's the rapport we've had for a long time. It's awesome to be able to start (to) get clicking on it for real, and you know, we're just going to keep it rolling."

Goff understood the importance of what Reynolds did for the Lions on Sunday, especially with Amon-Ra St. Brown out.

"Missing (Amon-Ra) St. Brown is tough. He's probably our top guy, and not having him out there is tough, but you get guys to step up. You get Kalif (Raymond) to step up, you get Josh (Reynolds) to step up, Marvin (Jones) there early on, and then obviously, Sam (LaPorta) had a big day. So guys stepped up (and) did their thing."

On 97.1 The Ticket Tuesday morning, head coach Dan Campbell took it a step further to praise Reynolds.

"He and Goff are in unbelievable sync together," "Goff’s got a real good bead on what he’s doing by how he runs routes and comes out of them, and he trusts that he’s going to be where he’s supposed to be. He is, right now, you can’t argue it, our most explosive receiver. The proof's in the pudding."

With or without St. Brown on the field, Reynolds has stepped up and been a key cog in the Lions' offense so far this season.
