Last week, the Detroit Lions handled their business against the winless Carolina Panthers. The Lions cruised to a 42-24 win and now BetSided NFL betting expert Iain MacMillan thinks they’ll do the same against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week.

In his “Road to 272” MacMillan picks every game of the NFL schedule and this week he’s taking the Lions to cover as road favorites down in Tampa Bay.

Betting expert for Lions in Week 6

There are only a few true contenders that have emerged so far this season and despite his reservations, BetSided NFL betting expert Iain MacMillan thinks that the Detroit Lions are absolutely one of them.

“The Detroit Lions are a legitimately great football team," MacMillian wrote in his weekly column. "What a world! It took me a few weeks to figure out how I felt about this team, but the Lions have lived up to their offseason expectations through their first five games. They're fourth in the NFL in net yards per play behind only the Dolphins, 49ers, and Ravens.”

The offense in Detroit is great. Jared Goff has got his weapons the football, but everybody expected that. What has been a surprise is the other side of the football.

“What has impressed me the most about them is just how improved their defense is compared to last year," he said. "What's important for them in this game is to be able to shut down the passing attack of the Buccaneers' offense and I think they're up for the challenge. The Lions are sixth in opponent yards per pass attempt and 10th in opponent EPA per dropback.”

If you boil it down, all the Lions have to do is outduel Baker Mayfield and when you put it that way, it’s easy to see why MacMillan is backing Detroit.
