Betting expert says the Lions hype train will continue vs. Panthers
By Josh Yourish
So far, the 3-1 Detroit Lions have delivered on all the hype they had coming into the season. Sure, they lost in Week 2 to the Seahawks, but after a 34-20 win over the Packers in Green Bay last week, that appears to be a blip on the radar. BetSided NFL betting expert Iain MacMillan expects the Detroit hype train to pick up steam in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers.
Each week, MacMillan bets every game of the NFL schedule in his “Road to 272” and this week he likes the Lions to cover as big home favorites against Bryce Young and the Panthers.

Betting expert for Lions in Week 5
As with any team that is expected to take a leap, you still need to see it to believe it. BetSided NFL betting expert Iain MacMillan has seen enough to buy into Dan Campbell and the Lions.
MacMillan wrote, “I think it's about time for us to accept this team as every bit as good as their preseason hype. They're fourth in the NFL in net yards per play (+1.2) through the first four weeks and now they're coming off a mini-BYE after disposing of the Packers on Thursday Night Football.”
That’s not the only metric that favors Detroit in this specific matchup. They also will find success with the run game and David Montgomery as they did in Green Bay.
“The Panthers, on the other hand, are bad. Even their defense, which I had high hopes for heading into the season, has been abysmal. Most notably, they rank dead last in the NFL in run defense EPA while giving up 4.7 yards per rush.”
MacMillan believes in Detroit’s rushing attack with Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, so he’s happy to lay the big spread in this one. Take the Lions to cover.
