Aqib Talib offers exciting prediction for Jared Goff and Lions this season
By Max DeMara
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has enjoyed a fantastic run of success. Not only did he cash in on a new contract extension this offseason, he got married. Now, he is getting set to lead his team into their most anticipated season in decades.
While some continue to see Goff as an average placeholder, those who have played alongside him know exactly what he brings to the table. Former NFL cornerback Aqib Talib was a teammate of Goff's for two years with the Los Angeles Rams (2018 and 2019), so he's got that perspective.
Joining Kay Adams on the "Up And Adams Show" Monday morning, Talib heaped praise on Goff when he was a younger quarterback.
"He was a great leader. He was a great vibe guy. He always had great energy. He talked with everybody. Come down and laugh and joke with the defensive backs. That's just what you want from your quarterback in the building. You want him to be a coach (and) player, but you don't want him to really act like a coach. You want him to act like one of the guys, and that's what Jared Goff did. He's always been good to me. I've always been a huge fan of Jared Goff. He's always winning. Probably won a state title in high school. His first five years he is in the playoffs and Super Bowl in Los Angeles. Wasn't good enough for them, you sent him over to Detroit. He's right back to the playoffs and NFC Championship. It's always been good for him. I think it will be even better for him this year.... I think the Lions may be back in the NFC Championship again this year."
There have been multiple variables that have sparked the Lions' turnaround, but perhaps none have been as big as Goff and his leadership along with how well he has played the last couple seasons.
Aqib Talib believes Detroit Lions heading for the Super Bowl this season
How far can Goff take the Lions?
Talib is a believer that the Lions will again make major noise in 2024.
"I think the Lions go to the Super Bowl this year. I think they get over the hump, go to the Super Bowl for the first time. But, it's a shame because they're going to see Patrick Mahomes in there again and they're not going to win."
If the Lions did make their first Super Bowl, win or lose, that would be another notable feather in Goff's cap. Detroit's brain trust is banking on him getting the franchise to the mountain top, and Talib believes he has the ideal traits to get it done.
