Amon-Ra St. Brown issues challenge to Lions fans attending the season opener

The Detroit Lions didn't get to start last year at home, but in 2024, that will be very different. Ford Field will be host to a raucous scene as the Los Angeles Rams come to town to kick off a highly anticipated season.

Some of the best memories from last season involved a passionate fanbase exploding after two home playoff wins. This year, the atmosphere could be even better given excitement for the Lions has been at a fever pitch all offseason, something which was proven at the NFL Draft.

Wide receiver Jameson Williams isn't worried about what kind of atmosphere the fans will provide. He told the media that he knows Lions fans will start early and carry their fiery excitement well into the game on Sunday.

"I expect it to be on fire from the jump. When the returners go out on the field from the first 60 minutes before the game (and) 90 minutes before the game, I expect it to be on fire. I know what they're going to do. I know what our fans are going to bring. I know the atmosphere they're going to bring, so I'm prepared for it. I hope everybody else is."

Detroit enjoys three of their first four games at home, which will give them a chance to get off to a hot start. Considering the Lions went 8-2 at Ford Field last year including the playoffs, that could be a reasonable expectation given the intimidating home field advantage they enjoy.

Williams is excited for the atmosphere at Ford Field, but Amon-Ra St. Brown took things to a whole other level with a request.

"I'm excited. Sunday night. I love primetime games. We had Thursday last year, the first game of the season. Love that. That was one of my favorite games, so I expect nothing less in Detroit Week 1. I remember my second year we played the (Philadelphia) Eagles Week 1 and it was sold out. Best fans in the world (are) the Detroit fans. I need them to break the decibel record."

The Lions set the Ford Field decibel record in the Wild Card game against the Rams last year (133.6). The overall NFL record is 142.2 decibels, set at Arrowhead Stadium in 2014.

If Lions fans can be "just" 8.7 decibels louder than the playoff game against the Rams on Sunday night, they can set the new NFL record. St. Brown wants to see that job get done.
