A look at the Detroit Lions 2023 Preseason schedule
Now officially confirmed by the NFL, here's a look at the Detroit Lions 2023 preseason schedule.
With the release of their 2023 regular season schedule, the Detroit Lions also confirmed their three preseason opponents. But only the time and date of the preseason finale was immediately locked in, for a national telecast on Friday Aug. 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
The Lions will have joint practices with the Giants and the Jaguars before the preseason games against them. Head coach Dan Campbell talked about the value of those joint practices, to break up the monotony of training camp (via MLive).
"I just think you get two real good days (of practice),”“It’s a change in intensity going against another opponent. Sometimes even as intense as you try to make your own practice, just to be able to go against a different opponent just levels the stakes."
- Dan Campbell
Each team released its slate of three preseason games, with dates and times, so we already knew it for the Lions. But nothing is truly officially official until the league confirms it, and on Wednesday the entire slate of preseason games across the league was laid out.
Why the announcement?....Well, it's hard to say...Because it's June 7? There are no surprises, or anything that seems to be new or unknown previously, in the league's announcement of the entire preseason schedule. But alas, it has been confirmed with the stamp of the NFL shield.

Via the NFL's Communications page, here's a fresh confirmation of the Lions' preseason schedue for this year. So mark your calendars, if you didn't do so already. Two of the games, the first two, are at Ford Field.
Week 1: vs. New York Giants, Friday, Aug. 11, 7 p.m. ET
Week 2: vs. Jaguars, Saturday, Aug. 19, 1 p.m. ET
Week 3: at Carolina Panthers, Friday, Aug. 25, 8 p.m. ET (CBS national telecast)
The Lions faced all three of their 2023 preseason opponents during the 2022 regular season, beating the Giants and Jaguars while losing to the Panthers. The Panthers have a noticeable 2022 Lions segment, on the coaching staff (Duce Staley, Todd Wash) and the roster (DJ Chark). Carolina will visit Ford Field in Week 5 of the regular season.
