5. TE Garrett Griffin

Dan Campbell's affinity for gritty tight ends (which of course he was as a player), and some familiarity based on overlap with the New Orleans Saints, didn't allow Griffin to make any impact with the Lions after signing as a free agent in 2022.

Griffin spent most of last season on the Lions' practice squad. He was elevated for one late-season game, where he played 10 offensive snaps and seven special teams snaps. This offseason, despite a real lack of talent on the tight end depth chart before Sam LaPorta was drafted, the Lions made absolutely no effort to bring Griffin back.

With five receptions in 21 games, Griffin is simply a non-entity in the NFL at this point. He probably should be playing in one of the spring football leagues, if only for the opportunity to play. But apparently that opportunity did not even come, which says it all about why no NFL team has signed him. His football career might just be over.
