In three drafts as Detroit Lions' general manager, Brad Holmes has pretty much nailed it. From early picks like Penei Sewell, Aidan Hutchinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, Sam LaPorta and Brian Branch, to later picks like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Kerby Joseph and Malcolm Rodriguez. There have been very few misses.

The Lions going from 3-13-1 in 2021 to a division title and as many as 13 wins this year has been built in the draft.

Regardless of how this season ends for the Lions, further bolstering of the roster will be done for 2024. Free agency and the draft will fill holes and upgrade certain spots, as always (that's the intention anyway, right?). So there, however obviously, just won't be room to keep everyone who is on the current roster.

With that in mind, these five former Lions' draft picks (dating back to the previous regime in some cases) will not be on the team in 2024.

5. CB Chase Lucas

The Lions' final pick in the 2022 draft (237th overall), Lucas has been a fine story. He made the 53-man roster as a rookie, though he only played six games. He has played 12 games so far this season, but solely on special teams and he has had some noticeable struggles at times.

The Lions have some work to do to build/reshape their cornerback depth chart in the offseason. As a down the depth chart guy, Lucas will be seeking an opportunity elsewhere next year.

Update: Lucas was waived on Thursday, Dec. 28.
