The Detroit Lions are in the part of their offseason schedule where players enjoy a decent amount of downtime, but that doesn't mean the grind has stopped for several of the team's biggest stars.

Already, fans have seen cornerback Terrion Arnold working hard to get his game to the next level this offseason. It should come as a surprise to see another former Alabama star on the offensive side of the ball doing the same exact thing.

Even after a season in which he put up 1,929 all-purpose yards and 20 touchdowns, Jahymr Gibbs is still working hard to find improvements. Recently, he was spotted working out with fellow running back Craig Reynolds and showing his usual blend of speed, balance, and explosiveness.

Obviously, plenty of players are still working out at this time of year, but Gibbs remaining so committed to the cause is notable considering the success he has already achieved in the league. It's not a stretch to say he is a star already, and yet he continues to work as if his roster slot is not guaranteed. That figures to lead him to major success.

Detroit Lions move to hire Tashard Choice earns relevant praise for Jahmyr Gibbs

Gibbs could be in line for yet another elite 2025 season, and a subtle reason could be due to coaching. This offseason, the Lions made a notable shuffle to their staff, moving Scottie Montgomery to wide receivers coach. That left the running back coach position open, and it was ultimately filled by Tashard Choice.

The decision to hire Choice away from the Texas Longhorn staff was a quiet win for the Lions, and was recently lauded as the franchise's top under-the-radar offseason move by ESPN analyst Eric Woodyard.

"The Lions have completely revamped their coaching staff after eight assistants left to take new positions in the offseason. Choice will enter his first season as the Lions' new running backs coach, and Scottie Montgomery will change to wide receivers and assistant head coach. The addition of Choice is huge for Jahmyr Gibbs, who led the NFL in touchdowns (20) in 2024. Choice coached Gibbs at Georgia Tech from 2020 to '21 and the two developed a close relationship."

Between Gibbs working out constantly and the comfort he will feel with a coach from his past who has NFL playing experience, things could be pointing in a fantastic direction for Detroit's back. The Lions have to break in a new offensive coordinator in John Morton, but still have a star in Gibbs. The more comfortable he feels, the better the Lions as a whole will remain.
