NFL insider thinks the Lions are the No. 1 spot for Myles Garrett

For whatever it's worth, an NFL insider made his thoughts on the Lions and Myles Garrett absolutely clear.

As soon as Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett went public with his trade request on Monday, any team regarded as a Super Bowl contender in the next couple years was tied to him. The Detroit Lions are among them, especially with their need for an edge rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson.

While there are things that push the Lions making a trade for Garrett toward unlikely, and there are analysts out there who will do nothing but bring them up, the Lions should at least make a call to the Browns. Most any other team they are competing with will at least see about the possibility of getting Garrett, and "it'll cost too much" is not a good enough reason to do not at least do that.

Yes, the Lions probably won't make a trade for Garrett. But until his situation is resolved nothing should be ruled out, and the Lions are in a position to consider a bold move as their Super Bowl window narrows (despite Brad Holmes' consistent dismissals of the idea).

NFL insider names Lions his favorite spot for Myles Garrett

On Tuesday's edition of "The Dan Patrick Show", the host brought up Garrett to Albert Breer and gave the Sports Illustrated NFL insider room to offer his thoughts.

"My favorite destination would be Detroit. I just think about that, they’re in a spot now where they don’t need their first round pick," Breer said. "They don’t really need to keep stocking up. They may be in a position where if you’re them, you may almost say, ‘We may only have five or six rookies make our team.’ So they’re in a position now where it’s like, ‘We can start to flip picks.’ If you’re them, you lost all of these coaches and you want to flip the momentum and keep things going in the right direction."

Breer then went into the idea of a Hutchinson-Garrett pairing.

"I mean, God, the idea of Myles Garrett opposite Aidan Hutchinson. That, to me, is really intriguing. Detroit’s in this championship window," Breer said. "They had so much momentum, and then the ugly loss to Washington and it was six or seven coaches. It looks like, ‘Oh God, are they missing their window?’ What’s the easiest way to flip that?”

Breer mentioning the Lions' "window" twice in a few sentences would make Holmes vomit. Losing seven assistant coaches is notable, but it also doesn't seem likely to crush their aspirations moving forward.

Breer seemed to point to Detroit as his favorite spot for Garrett based on the mutual fit. There's no denying that aspect of it, even if it would require the Lions making a notable shift from their core philosophy to ultimately get the trade done.
