If the second-year receiver matches this hype, it would be huge for the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions have one of the best offenses in the NFL, and the reason has been their ability to identify young talent at every level in the NFL draft.

Detroit's roster is loaded with players under 30 who are at the top of what they do, and there are several waiting in the wings that are poised to show up big time in the coming years as well. Such is the case for wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa.

TeSlaa was a third-round pick in 2025, and during his rookie season, he managed to play a bigger than expected role for the Lions, making several impressive catches along the way. Now, with that experience under his belt, it could be an even bigger and better season for him in 2026 boosted by an impressive run of work in OTA season.

NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks revealed his top breakout candidates for the 2026 season on the offensive side of the ball. He is the latest analyst to single out TeSlaa as one of the wide receivers who is set for a massive leap this season due to his physical skills and ability within Detroit's offense.

"The Lions' desire to live in 11 personnel makes TeSlaa's promotion to WR3 a significant development for the second-year pro. Checking in at 6-4 and 214 pounds, he is the big-bodied pass catcher Jared Goff needs in the red zone. A third-round pick in 2025, TeSlaa tallied six touchdowns on just 16 catches as a rookie, exhibiting exceptional hand-eye coordination and body control with defenders nearby."

"Most importantly, TeSlaa has earned the trust of the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback, which will lead to more opportunities when opponents roll the coverage to Amon-Ra St. Brown and/or Jameson Williams. Considering how opponents must also defend a potent running game anchored by Jahmyr Gibbs, the Lions' WR3 could play a major role in a bounce-back campaign for Detroit."

TeSlaa could be a major red-zone weapon for the Lions, and it's also important to watch his impact when it comes to deep balls as well as passes down the sideline. His role within the Detroit scheme could be interesting, because the Lions already have a fantastic tough possession receiver in Amon-Ra St. Brown and a certified burner in Jameson Williams.

The element of size is easily brought by TeSlaa to complement this group, and providing he can understand the route concepts better, it should give him a leg up to boost this group in a major way.

TeSlaa admits he is feeling fantastic coming into second NFL season

The arrow is pointed firmly upward for TeSlaa, and that's due in large part to the fact that the wide receiver has banked plenty of experience from his first season in the league. Even though he didn't see tons of action, TeSlaa still managed to gain something from the time he did see in between the lines that gives him confidence for this year.

"I've told people coming into your sophomore year compared to being a rookie is just so much more I wouldn't say relaxing because I don't think in football you can ever really relax, you got to have an edge about you, but just so much more comfortable. Not only just being familiar with the guys, I'm not trying to learn names and stuff, but also with the offense. We have a lot of translation from last year. It's just a lot more comfortable and I feel like I'm able to play a little bit faster, doing a lot less thinking this year."

Playing fast without extra thought is the best way to ensure a player can take the kind of leap that is needed to play a starring role in the league. Often times, too much thinking only allows for bigger mistakes to be made. The fact that TeSlaa is playing in this manner shows he is ready for even more growth on the field.

By the end of 2026, fans could look back and see TeSlaa was indeed correctly identified as a breakout star at wide receiver. If that is the case, the Lions might have the best offense in the entire NFL.
