It has been a whirlwind of a few days for the Detroit Lions. It all started with the team getting bounced from the playoffs in last weekend's NFC Divisional Round in an upset by the Washington Commanders.

And then, the news started pouring in on Monday.

First, the Chicago Bears did, indeed, hire offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be their next head coach. It was a move which caused a lot of pain to a large amount of Lions fans. After all, leaving Detroit for a division rival stings. It was less than ideal, but it is what it is.

This wouldn't be the only big news to come out about Lions coordinators, however.

As many were suspecting, the Lions would continue to lose coaches in the coming days.

Wednesday, additional news broke that the New York Jets were hiring Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to be their next head coach, leaving Detroit without either coordinator going into the 2025 season.

Now, the Lions face their harsh reality everybody knew was coming in the end. They are now in search for a new offensive and defensive coordinator. But, this was to be expected, as stated.

On the bright side, Glenn's success will also net the Lions a pair of third-round compensatory picks in the next two drafts.

The Lions' success in 2024 is exactly why Aaron Glenn was going to accept a head coaching job

It's tough to see the depth of Glenn's impact on the surface, this past season. There were several games where the Lions gave up more points than they would have liked.

However, as Lions fans have come to know good and well, it got to a point where Glenn's defense was essentially playing guys right off the street on Sundays. There were countless injuries on that side of the ball, throughout the season.

More Lions news:

None may have been bigger than that of Aidan Hutchinson, the league leader in sacks prior to his season-ending injury.

Nevertheless, Glenn continued to help coach his defense to be playing at a high level. Even though the results weren't always there in the box score, Glenn saw a multitude of players step up in big moments when needed.

This was always going to be the reality at the end of Detroit's season, unfortunately. It happens when you have a team as successful as the Lions on both sides of the ball. Both Glenn and Johnson deserved the jobs they earned while putting time into the Detroit organization.

Now, it's on to finding their replacements.
