Lions LT Taylor Decker reveals exact nature of injury that cost him Week 10
Detroit Lions left tackle Taylor Decker popped up on last Thursday's practice report with a shoulder injury, and he ended up missing Week 10 against the Houston Texans.
On Wednesday, head coach Dan Campbell expressed optimism Decker will be able to play in Week 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"As of right now, I do feel better about having Decker this week,” Campbell said on Wednesday. “he was out there at walkthrough, going through (practice). I feel like he is questionable, but I’m starting to feel like—I think he’s going to be able to make it (into the game). Tomorrow will tell a lot, certainly, that’ll be a full-speed practice for us.”
During his own time with reporters in the Lions' locker room on Wednesday, he expressed guilt about missing the game against the Texans but also realized the decision to play was (and probably should've been, under the circumstances) taken out of his hands.
Taylor Decker reveals exact nature of his shoulder injury
Decker confirmed that his injury happened during practice, then he went into detail about it.
"It happened in practice, yeah. Rotator cuff strain, and then I’ve had shoulder surgery on this shoulder before with the labrum,” Decker said. “Just irritated the labrum a little bit, and the week prior I had a pec strain on the same side. I know the play that happened that caused it, but I don’t know if it was maybe a compensation thing or whatnot. Hopefully, it’s not too long term.”
Decker did pop up on practice reports the week before last with a chest issue, and he said the shoulder issue was to the same side. He had surgery to repair a torn labrum in June of 2017, and missed the first half of that season. So that's the known shoulder surgery he was presumably referring to.
Decker was listed as limited on Wednesday's estimated practice report, as the Lions only had a walkthrough practice. Thursday's normal practice will be telling for Decker's ability to return to action on Sunday, but right now it looks like he may only miss one game.
