The Detroit Lions, once again, look like one of the best teams in the NFL, entering Week 6 with a 4-1 record. Things are clicking on both sides of the ball, and even though the team has been affected by injury, Detroit has kept things rolling. The team’s next challenge will be a 2-3 Kansas City Chiefs team on Sunday Night Football.
One reason the Lions are putting together another impressive season is the return of Aidan Hutchinson. The 2022 second-overall pick has played in every game this season, and he has quickly recaptured his Pro Bowl form. According to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, it’s now time for the Lions to reward him with a contract extension.
NFL insider says Aidan Hutchinson will likely get extended before the season ends
In a recent ESPN piece, looking at all the latest buzz, Fowler and Dan Graziano answered which player is most likely to get an extension over the next two months. Both agreed that Hutchinson was a good bet, with Fowler explaining how both sides have already had exploratory talks. With the defender back playing elite football, he and the team could get a deal across the line soon.

"Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson looks destined for a new deal. Both sides have had exploratory discussions about an extension, for which Hutchinson is eligible as a fourth-year pro… Detroit has shown an eagerness to extend its marquee players, and there's none bigger than Hutchinson."Jeremy Fowler (ESPN)
Hutchinson only played in five games last season before fracturing his tibia and fibula, but he was back in time for the start of this season, and has played in every game. In five outings this year, the defensive end has five sacks, 12 tackles, five tackles for a loss, and 12 quarterback hits. Hutchinson is healthy, and has returned to being one of the best edge defenders in the league. Soon, the Lions will sign him to an extension that reflects that.
